Did you know changes to building regulations are just around the corner?…
Announced late last year, new building regulations for England are due to come into effect from 15th June 2022. Intended to help the UK reach net-zero CO2 by 2050, whilst actively combatting climate change, Housing Minister Eddie Hughes said:
“The changes will significantly improve the energy efficiency of the buildings where we live, work and spend our free time and are an important step on our country’s journey towards a cleaner, greener built environment.”
So, how does this relate to trickle vents and why should it matter to you?…

Trickle vent
Trickle vents keep rooms adequately ventilated when the window or door is closed, via a small slot located on the upper part of the frame. The current building regulations* indicate that trickle vents are mandatory on windows and doors in the following areas:

Approved Document F sets the standards for ventilation requirements to maintain indoor air quality. Slashing emissions from new homes by 30%, the amendments in June will require both new windows in existing homes, as well as new homes and extensions, to contain trickle vents.

Tightening minimum energy rating standards for windows and doors, the new minimum energy standard for windows will be 1.4 W/m²K (Window Energy Rating B). For doors, it will be 1.4 or Door Energy Rating C.
Addressing the issue of overheating in new residential buildings, Part O will focus on the importance of limiting solar gain via UV-ray absorption options, such as installing high-performance solar control glazing or reducing glazed areas in new conservatories and garden rooms.
Our high-performance home improvement products are not just chosen for their impressive sightlines and security features, thermal efficiency and future building regulation compliance are essential considerations too. Achieving the very best energy ratings possible (A+), a collection of specialist glazing options, and a wide range of matching hinges, handles, restrictors, and trickle vents are also available to make your new windows and doors your own.
